Hello lovelies, I can hardly believe it’s the last day of November! We are heading to sunnier climes this morning with the stunning Italian wedding of Kate and Mike on June 23rd 2015 at Castello Di Vincigliata Fiesole, Italy. It’s a truly family affair, their siblings were all involved in key roles in the day. Among them, Kate’s brother Matt acted as celebrant, bringing an hilarious and poignant personal viewpoint and her brother Rich Alexander sang during the ceremony, leaving not a dry eye in the house. The images by Kylee Yee show a fun-filled day with classic touches and please don’t miss those fabulous Dior shoes!
“Italy is our spiritual home, we visit at least twice per year and haven’t tired of it yet. Florence is one of the world’s most romantic cities, and we wanted our guests, many of whom travelled from Australia, to experience all the beauty Italy has to offer. Florence and Fiesole bring this to life. After the wedding we continued the celebrations at nearby Cinque Terre with 50 or so family and friends for a ‘buddymoon’.”
Kate looked no further than the wonderful Temperley for her gorgeous gown.
“I tried four dresses and chose the third. I fell in love with my dress because it was so easy and lightweight to wear. I knew straight away I could be myself in this dress, and most importantly dance the night away to my heart’s content.”
The couple didn’t have a videographer but they did have drone footage taken which shows the expanse of their amazing venue. The lovely Kylee Yee produced these stunning images along with her assistant Anneli Marinovich. I especially love the shots of the couple straight after the ceremony, they both look so happy and overwhelmed with joy.
“Kylee and Anneli were an absolute delight to deal with on the day. Hardworking, professional, calm and creative, Kylee had the impressive skill of being a confident art director whilst also unobtrusive. Not a second was wasted or a moment missed. This is from our perspective, but also for the guests. They never got underfoot and the group photos were quick and fun for all involved. The quality of their work speaks for itself, Kylee’s photos are touched with love and light, she captures both scale and detail.”
“Kylee’s positive energy and creative eye were crucial to our enjoyment of the day and she captured the best moments without ever making us feel awkward or too ‘done’. In her hands, our wedding memories have been brought to life, we are so grateful to her.”
The couple hired Emiliana Gualtieri at Amoretti Weddings to help them bring their plans to life.
“The most important thing for us was to have fun with a huge party. An explosion of joy and energy! We love vivid and varied colours in our day to day life and Emiliana really took our penchant for bright things and turned them into a beautifully tailored, modern design, but with classic undertones. Her eye for detail and flair for design meant that we could focus on the fun bits – she really nailed it!”
Kate’s bridesmaids wore beautiful full length blush gowns from Thurley with Kurt Geiger shoes and bespoke Karin Andreasson jewellery, while her Man of honour wore the same custom made Briggins tux as the Groom and Groomsmen.
Kate and Mike went to High School together in Australia but didn’t become a couple until a few years later. They got engaged watching the sunset on the banks of the Thames and by the time they got married 15 months later, had been a couple for 10 years.
“My veil was generously sent to me by a wonderful family friend after herself being married just a few weeks beforehand. Dotted with tiny pearls, it was princess making stuff. I hadn’t considered wearing a veil beforehand and I’m so glad I was lucky enough to wear this one.
My hairstylist Polly Doggett picked fresh flowers from the bouquets and the gardens at Vincigliata for my hair. As they wilted, we picked more!”
“Emiliana at Amoretti Weddings did a brilliant job with the stationery. She also sourced colourful wallpaper to drape from the internal courtyard where we were married.”
Kate’s brother Rich sang Bob Dylan’s ‘To Make you Feel my Love’ as she walked down the aisle with her dad and ‘Thinking out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran as they signed the register.
The couple added vows to laugh, encourage and inspire, to choose adventure and be content. Mike vowed to always pick up his towels and share his food when asked. Kate vowed to always watch NBA with Mike and to try not to finish his sentences.
“We had three readings. ‘Love and Marriage through the eyes of Homer and Marge Simpson’, A letter from Johnny Cash to his wife June on her 65th birthday and an extract from ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’, by Louis De Bernieres.”
“We chose them because we are obsessed with the Simpsons and wanted the ceremony to be as funny as possible and we loved the idea of love letters and an ongoing and evolving love.”
“The 5 minutes we had together just the two of us after we had walked out of the ceremony, before we walked out into the procession was a special stolen moment – our first just the two of us in over a week. It was a time to savour the moment – taking it all in, preparing for the rest of the day ahead.”
“The food was simply magnificent! An absolute highlight of the day, our guests are still talking about it. The quality was beyond our wildest dreams.
The cake is a Tuscan tradition, building a mille-feuille style cream and strawberry cake live, layer after layer. It is the most delicious cake I have ever eaten! I had two bits and my only regret for the whole day is that I didn’t eat more!”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“The most important thing is to have a good time and outsource everything you possibly can! The only way to have a good time is to not be too attached to the outcome. Don’t worry too much about the flowers and decorations, trust the people around you to do a good job, and then just let it happen. Take deep breaths and ride the wave of adrenaline.”
Thank you so much to Kate and Mike for allowing us a glimpse into this most beautiful wedding day. Also huge thanks to the lovely Kylee for the breathtaking images, we featured another of her weddings a few weeks back, you can see it here.
