If you’re not acquainted with What Katy Did Next then let me introduce you to talented designer Katy Howieson who’s been decorating brides ever since her first collection launched here on Love My Dress in 2011.
We’ve been huge fans of her incredible work from that day to this and it’s an absolute treat to be able to support someone with a passion for accessories, a deep love of fashion and a real desire to create pieces are completely handmade and always unique.
The Botanical Collection from What Katy Did Next is most assuredly the best yet. Katy takes her inspiration from her interests in historical costume and vintage film and mixes these influences with her love of the delicate textures found in nature’s flora and fauna not to mention her (completely justified!) obsession with modern metallics.
“The Botanical Collection heavily features copper and rose gold tones,” explains Katy. “It also covers a range of different styles to suit every bride. When creating a new collection, I rarely sketch out my designs and instead I choose to grasp onto a flourishing thought and let my fingers create what comes naturally.”
And ‘naturally’ is the perfect word to describe the organic and earthy delights that await in The Botanical Collection. Dainty, ethereal vines, stunning metallic twig tiaras, divine statement veils and fabulous fresh adornments for the quirkiest of brides can all be found in this treasure trove of bridal headwear.
“The joy in the designs is that many of them are so versatile so the finished look is all in the way that you choose to style them. I love to design accessories that can be worn in a multiple of ways to make it really personal for the wearer.”
“The handmade nature of the pieces also means that many can be made up in a range of colours or tweaked slightly to suit you. In fact, one of my favourite parts of my job is working on custom orders with brides. Watching their eyes light up when I present an idea that hadn’t crossed their mind for example is such a highlight. I also relish a challenge so an impossible sounding request is always tempting!”
I am, without a doubt, absolutely smitten with The Botanical Collection. I just love the golden fern combs and super sweet ‘LOVE’ hair vines in pretty rose gold with matching embellished veils. The veil with tumbling florals is another piece that’s caught my eye and the wild, stripped back beauty of the modern golden twig tiara just makes me sigh with happiness. Oh yes, this is a collection that will capture the heart of everyone who sees charm and grace in the natural world.
The new Botanical 2016 Collection from What Katy Did Next is now available and pieces start from £30. If you’d like to ask Katy a question about your selection or discuss a custom order, just get in touch via 07983 599716 or [email protected].
