I have something special for you beautiful readers today – the little tale of Daisy and Marc and their spring wedding that’s positively brimming with glamorous gold touches, a divine Jenny Packham gown, the most glorious colourful mix of florals and the icing on the cake literally is the icing on the cake. I’m going to have to get my bake on and whip up something to satisfy my craving, especially as it’s nearly time for the next season of The Great British Bake Off (*fist pumps air*).
Meet Daisy, who works as a project support officer, and her network engineer beau Marc. The couple married on the 16th April 2016 at the modern venue Great John Street Hotel in Manchester for their very sparkly nuptials.
“As Daisy loves anything sparkly, gold was a big colour for the day. We both love a drink and a boogie, so decided to name the tables after famous nightclubs. Overall we really just wanted to create a laid back, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of champagne! We chose the hotel because it had a laid back and modern feel and were completely blown away by the rooftop terrace.”

Have you discovered our fabulous Little Book for Brides? Daisy’s attire featured a few of the wonderful suppliers showcased in this splendid bridal resource (see their listings here and here). She donned a pair of Harriet Wilde heels and a Debbie Carlisle hairpiece that added a touch of sparkle to her up-do. We adore Debbie Carlisle – she creates all her beautiful headpieces by hand and is such a lovely lady too – we cannot recommend her highly enough..

In her exquisite Jenny Packham ‘Betty’ dress, purchased from The White Closet in Manchester, Daisy was every bit the glamorous bride; “At first I thought I didn’t want to go for anything too feminine or bridal but I just couldn’t not have this dress. The gorgeous floaty sleeves along with the gold beading were just irresistible to me.”
I am in absolute awe of the incredible colourful floral arrangements in an eclectic variety of vases and jars at the hotel, as well as the beautiful bouquets.
“David at Frog Flowers in Manchester Frog Flowers is a genius! He had worked on the flowers at my cousin’s wedding and I just knew I had to opt for him at ours. He immediately knew what kind of vibe what we were going for. I now have a photo of the flowers as the background on my phone because I can’t stop looking at them.”
”
The fabulous Bethany Jane Davies from The Vintage Beauty Parlour in Manchester did both my hair and make-up. I honestly felt like a film star – my makeup was flawless!”
Marc looked incredibly dapper in a Hawes & Curtis grey suit with a spotty tie and added very cool Star Wars Rebel Alliance cufflinks. And I love this quirky little fact about the two best men.
“We both had best men and they’re both called Tom! They both did amazingly well on the day and their speeches brought the house down.”
Daisy’s two maids and her flower girl wore lovely bespoke twobirds Bridesmaid dresses, with their own shoes and the gorgeous flower crown was by Frog Flowers.
I just love Daisy’s recollection of their sweet love story – yep, I’m a sucker for romance!
“I was working with Marc’s friend (who eventually was Marc’s best man on the big day) back in 2009 and Marc ended up crashing a work night out. We have been inseparable ever since and pretty much called each other boyfriend and girlfriend from day one. We got engaged in September 2014 while watching the sun go down in Tenerife.”
“My big sister Erin walked me down the aisle to the tune of “‘Til There Was You” by The Beatles. For our vows, we wanted to go for something intimate, meaningful – but also short!”
“Our wedding reading was ‘Love is a Temporary Madness’, from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and brilliantly read by Marc’s dad Chris.”
My wedding ring was designed by Iain Henderson to fit with my vintage flower engagement ring and Marc’s was purchased from Fraser Hart.”
“The photos were by the wonderful Cassandra Lane. I stumbled across Cass’s website while doing some wedding research and am so glad I did. Her photos are absolutely stunning and really captured how happy the day was. Her style is modern and unpretentious and is just exactly what Marc and I were looking for. Her service has been impeccable from start to finish and we couldn’t recommend her highly enough!”
Artcadia provided the invitations and place cards and the fabulous nightclubs table plan was designed by Soko Studio. Daisy and Marc paid homage to their Yorkshire roots with their wedding favours of solid chocolate hearts from Bettys of Harrogate.
The catering was provided by the hotel and the couple’s cake was definitely a highlight.
“We wanted to have a bit of fun with the cake so went for Bakeorama, based in Manchester. We wanted something unusual, gold and fun and we certainly got what we asked for. The cake was an absolute showstopper and tasted amazing.”
“We had a string quartet and the evening entertainment was provided by our good friend Tom Wilkins on the decks. ‘You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)’ by Sylvester was our first dance song to get the party started properly!
We honestly couldn’t choose our best moment – it was the perfect day from start to finish and we were absolutely bowled over by how much love there was in the room. It sounds smug but we wouldn’t have changed anything at all. We had the best time.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Just relax! Although it’s definitely easier said than done. We tried not to get too stressed out in the lead up to the day by focusing on how all the things we were sorting out were lovely and exciting. We also really believe in the power and usefulness of Excel spreadsheets.”
This is such excellent advice for all of you currently in the throes of planning. I was petrified of Excel until my wedding and learnt to master it through tracking the budget and keeping everything on track with perfectly colour-coordinated tabs (and yes, hubby-to-be got a huge telling off if he was to so dare as change any of the colours). I’m so very thankful to the delightful Daisy and Marc for sharing their magical day and your florist truly is a genius! A huge thank you as well to Cassandra for capturing all the little moments of pure joy.
See here for more Jenny Packham designs we’ve previously showcased – trust me, you will fall in love.
Here’s to a brilliant rest of week (I’ll let you know how the cake tasted next time…).
Love Jo -x-
