I’m a very happy girl right now. Today, I have the absolute joy of sharing ‘The Grand Voyage’ with you and my history loving heart is skipping a beat.
‘The Grand Voyage’ is the absolutely exquisite new collection from Eliza Jane Howell and my goodness, it’s just beyond beautiful. If you’re dreaming of an exceptional vintage inspired gown that takes the very best of Golden Age fashion and gives it a contemporary twist then you’re about to fall in love.
The award-winning Eliza Jane Howell label is overseen by designer Gill Harvey who graduated from the Royal College of Art in London. Named after her fashion designer grandmother, Gill has made sure that the Eliza Jane Howell brand is known around the world for fabulous design and construction.
Every gown is hand beaded and individually made, combining traditional and modern techniques and patterns to create something very special indeed.
We’ve seen many Eliza Jane Howell brides here on Love My Dress over the years with so many readers falling for the wonderful vintage influence that runs through all the collections. There’s also a touch of drama with an Eliza Jane Howell gown – this is high-class vintage that reflects the very best of the era. Flattering, elegant and truly stunning, every collection is a masterpiece.
And ‘The Grand Voyage’ continues this tradition and elevates the label to a whole new level. Inspired by the extravagance of the ‘Grand Tours’ that aristocrats took during previous centuries, you can imagine these gowns gracing balls and social events on ocean liners and high-class hotels. Described as a ‘masterful fusion of contemporary style and classic sensibility’. Captured amongst the fabulous treasure trove of the Wallace Collection, this collection is a triumph.
So, what will you find in this collection? Well, straight away you’ll notice those evocative silhouettes and shapes that give these gowns such a sense of perfect vintage style but you’ll also notice those modern twists and details that take these designs to a whole new level. This collection doesn’t simply remake designs of the past, it creates something new and exciting that comes with a real sense of history.
There are so many designs that grab my attention in the collection. For quintessential vintage style, Antibes, Padua, Paris and Rome really have it all. I also love the gowns that come with softer, slightly fuller skirts so Veneto, Palermo and Domenico all get my vote but the beautiful lace back of Domenico really makes me smile.
Gowns with sleeves also feature – Dresden, Constantinople, Baroque and Bologne all embrace sleeves, among other designs, and the feather-fringed sleeves of Baroque and Bologne are just so appealing. Bologne also comes with a daring split in the front of the skirt too for extra impact.
I also have to mention the colour options in the collection too. The designs that can also be ordered in D’or or Platinum tones absolutely sing to me. Montpellier in D’or is definitely one of my favourites – the embellishments on the bodice, those barely-there sleeves and that soft and romantic skirt are just beautiful. I also love Florence in D’or – the gorgeous sparkling bodice where the embellishment continues into the skirt to be joined by those feathery details is so stunning.
There are also fresh alternatives and Innsbruck is a knockout bridal jumpsuit that features a deep V-neck and all-over embellishments that evoke the style of the 1920s and 1930s. The ruffled skirt of Poissy is another style that’s a little unexpected by works so well and there are also some bridal separates too – take a look at the fringed Belloto or Caditz skirts for real wow-factor or the Sparta cape, perfect for winter weddings.
And I feel there that I’ve only touched on the delights within this collection. But that’s as it should be because now, you can discover ‘The Grand Voyage’ for yourself – this is a journey to enjoy.
