Pronovias Elegance for an Intimate and Relaxed Summer Wedding in the Peak District

This wedding comes to you from a part of the world I hold very dear. I grew up in a rural town on the edge of the wild and wonderful Peak District, and so I was thrilled when I saw that this lovely, late summer wedding was held in the town of Bakewell in Derbyshire. It’s a laid back, relaxed and intimate affair, with just twelve guests (including the bride and groom),  a cosy pub reception and soft and romantic florals in pastel shades of pink.

GP Robyn and NHS project manager Scott were married on the 31 August 2017 at Bakewell Town Hall followed by dinner at the Peacock Inn, Rowsley.

“Living in Chesterfield, so close to the Peak District, we frequently visit Bakewell for walks and fish and chips. We knew we were only inviting close family so did not require a large space. Scott’s parents had highly recommended the Peacock and when we visited pre wedding we were not disappointed.”

Robyn bought the sleek and stylish ‘Ivania’ gown by Pronovias from Marrime Bridalwear in Kendal.

“I loved its simplicity and lack of lace and the drama of the back, with covered buttons and a long train. As I bought it with no wedding booked I knew it was such a versatile gown.”Initially considering an elopement, Robyn and Scott settled upon Bakewell six months after Robyn bought her wedding gown in a sample sale online.

“We looked at some fabulous venues but nothing quite felt like us…I found my dress nearly a year before we had even planned our wedding day. I ordered it online after I spotted it in a sample sale. I tried on no other dresses and visited no bridal boutiques. I told a close friend what I was planning and she recommended an excellent seamstress and within a few weeks my perfect dress was ready. Six months passed and we were no further forward with ideas.”

“It was Scott who suggested Bakewell. We must have walked past the town hall a thousand times and I’d never considered it. We got our date secured and then liaised with The Peacock at Rowsley, who could accommodate our 12 guests including ourselves in their private dining room. It was relatively easy to sort, being midweek.”

Keeping her look minimalist and elegant, Robyn’s hair was styled in soft waves by Dan at Embellish Make Up and Hair Studio, while Carrie took care of her radiant make up.

On her feet she wore shoes by Jimmy Choo and celestial inspired earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane. Scott gave Robyn the gift of her wedding day fragrance – Tom Ford’s Orchid Soleil.

Scott looked great in his smart Marks & Spencer suit paired with a spotted tie from Reiss, a cornflower blue pocket square from Zebra Menswear and lovely oxblood coloured brogues from Barker Shoes, also purchased at Zebra Menswear.

During the ceremony at Bakewell Town Hall, the couple exchanged vows and rings from Marlow’s Diamonds, which they had bought from the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. Maid of Honour Harriet read a poem and Robyn reminisces that this part of the day was her favourite.

“I just felt so happy – my photographs speak volumes.”

There to capture those joyful moments was photographer Hollie Nicole, whose crisp and natural images show all the romance of the day.

“I called Hollie after I had happened upon her Facebook page. I loved her images, the use of light and the naturalness of her photographs. We met shortly after and she understood immediately what I was looking for. Relaxed images, rather than formal posed ‘wedding photos’.”

Working to Robyn’s brief of loose and natural with lots of pink, Fresh Ideas Florists pulled out all the stops with a breathtaking bouquet filled with roses, succulents and abundant greenery.

“Scott and I met at a local pub quiz. We were introduced via a mutual friend. He kept answering lots of the questions correctly and I was won over by his intelligence. Upon reflection the questions were weighted heavily towards sport and pop culture! We laugh now that the questions swung heavily in his favour.”

“We dated for three years before Scott asked me to marry him in one of my favourite cities, Newcastle -upon- Tyne on the 13 November 2015. He proposed with the most fantastic oval diamond engagement ring.”

Robyn and Scott booked the private dining room at the Peacock Inn, Rowsley, for an intimate dinner for twelve following the ceremony, and the table was decorated with fresh pastel hued flowers by the team at the venue, and scattered with confetti, which had been bought by Robyn’s colleagues.

“My work colleagues bought me a ‘Mr and Mrs’ banner with some confetti to decorate my work office the day before I got married. I later used them in our private dining room at the Peacock.”

Maid of honour Harriet wore a dreamy blush pink dress with lace bodice from Coast and matching pink sandals from Faith. Flower girls Bella and Layna wore lace and tulle dresses and shoes from Monsoon.

“I had always wanted flower girls. Scott’s daughter Layna and his two nieces chose their pink dresses. With that in mind I then spoke to our local florist where Scott has been buying me flowers from all through our relationship.”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“Don’t overthink things. Ultimately my husband planned our wedding and it was perfect. I became lost in a sea of Instagram and Pinterest ideas and couldn’t settle with anything.

“He helped me see that actually what mattered was us and our close family. It may not be for everyone or even be possible for everyone, but it was ideal for us.”

What lovely, reflective words of wisdom, Robyn. Thanks to you and Scott for this glimpse into your perfectly relaxed and intimate day. Many thanks also to Hollie Nicole Photography for a beautiful collection of images. You can view more weddings in the glorious Peak District here.
