Bohemia by Sasso Bride: Ethical Handknitted Accessories for the Bohemian Bride

If you were to ask me for suppliers who could recommend something feathery and fabulous to wear on your wedding day, amongst my immediate thoughts would be Sasso Bride.

Sasso Bride have spent the past 10 years producing gorgeous, feathery bridal accessories, but as they enter their second decade on a high, this wonderful little creative business have been keen to produce ‘something new’ (a perfect addition to your something old, borrowed and blue, of course). ‘Bohemia by Sasso’ is a capsule collection of five hand knitted and latched garments. Designer Katie tells us more.

“We decided this was the year to introduce a new look , something that would be an alternative to our usual, opulent feather cover-ups,  and that would channel a more free spirited, bohemian look.”

“The Bohemia Collection is artfully handcrafted by the ‘Women Artisans of Bali’, providing work and skills training to women in remote areas, where women are primary caregivers in the home and childcare is non existent. Employing these women this way provides economic independence, self- esteem and empowerment.”

“We have carefully designed and created The Bohemia range – each piece is made from Bamboo rayon mix and entirely by hand – without electricity, so no machine can match the unique quality of these pieces. As well as this the production process is completely carbon neutral – which means these pieces are 100% ethically produced and good for the Environment too.”

“With a nod to all things bohemian, we want our collection to work throughout the seasons and to encapsulate a laid back feel and style. In an effort to capture the essence of our new designs we set about to create a photoshoot, the results of which you see on this page. We had the luxury of being able to take over a whole working farm in the Yorkshire country side for the day, the beautiful ‘Carlton Hall Farm’, in Yeadon, Leeds.””

“With a beautiful apple tree in full bloom to a helping hand from the two playful farm horses Paddy and Eric – we were totally spoilt for choice with dreamy meadow like settings.”

“Wedding photographer Natalie Pluckcaptured our images. I absolutely adore her hazy pastel photography style and knew it would really showcase the softness of our designs. Makeup artist and hair stylist extraordinaire Becca Hunton mastered big hair and dewy skin with a splash of soft blush tones on the cheeks and lips – we wanted to keep the look and vibe really  laid back and easy.”

“I had been lucky enough to meet the most beautiful real bride a few months prior, Cherie Mainwaring, and knew she would be my perfect Bohemia model! She had an effortless look with the most gorgeous natural curly hair. Her look completely encapsulates the beautiful, youthful and free spirited nature of our new designs.”

“I spoke with Emma at Love Bridal – a luxury bridal boutique in Cheshire, about borrowing a gown for our photoshoot. She loaned me the incredibly beautiful ‘Sasha’, by designer Sassi Holford – a simple, classy and elegant strappy silk gown. It was perfect.”

“Myself and Sasso founder, Elaine, took upon styling the shoot. I brought my collection of straw hats from Mexico and a pair of leather clog mules that I have discovered in a vintage shop just a few days prior. We layered the look with tarnished silver jewels and bohemian headscarves made from cream appliqué fabric, to add some amazing Hendrix vibes. Using some carefully placed signage designed and made by my best friend and hand sign writer, the wonderful ‘Woodenpins‘.”

“The shoot was a success from start to finish and the final images are just breath taking. Bohemia by Sasso was officially launched in September and has had great success so far! We’re so delighted to be able to share it with the Love My Dress community.”
