Today has been an admin day folks, we’re getting right on top of of it all, so, no wedding today.
In fact, every Friday going forward now, we’re going to be dedicating our time to our love of bridal fashion – all the fancy frocks, pretty dresses, cool separates and new designer collections. We’ll be covering not just the dress, but shoes and accessories too. We’ll even be including some groom style, because we know how much you lovely brides adore it. Consider this ‘Fashion Friday’ from now on.
In the meantime, I’ve this beautiful editorial shoot to share with you that embraces the concept of a ‘zero waste’ wedding. I am excited to be sharing more and more content with an ethical and sustainable focus – and I hope that for those more environmentally conscious brides amongst you, this will inspire.
By the way, I truly believe we ought all be trying to embrace our more environmentally conscious selves – making decisions as we plan our weddings that are kinder to the environment. MPs did, afterall, pass Commons motion to declare ‘environment and climate change emergency’ in the UK yesterday.
I am standing wholeheartedly therefore behind all wedding suppliers making a big effort to affect change in our industry and encourage better, more sustainable solutions.
The lady behind this concept was Kate Hirons, DIY wedding planner and Consultant also behind Jump The Broom, and whose words follow.
“Our editorial story centres around a child’s perspective of the adult world and the importance of exploration, responsibility and taking joy from simplicity; which is exactly what we aimed to capture throughout the shoot.”
“Inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s ‘The Little Prince’, this shoot, styled in The Engine Room at Barton Court, Colwall, was created with the purpose of celebrating the simple, the playful and the ethical.”
“Notable suppliers included Tiny Sarah’s Cakes, who make original, bold and totally vegan cakes; CoopCouture who specialise in handmade, knitted-silk dresses and separates; Keep.Collect, who design beautiful journals and keepsake boxes to preserve wedding memories and Rebecca Winder who makes stunning and responsibly sourced fine gold jewellery.”
“Some of these ‘zero-waste’ inspired features included a recyclable paper origami bird backdrop (created by Jump the Broom), re-usable and hardy air plants, and the creations of suppliers who pride themselves on being both unique and ethically responsible.”
“With a modern, minimalist look at its core, colour and texture was built up using gold, orange and amber accents, as well as adding decorative touches which re-told the story in a subtle and enjoyable way, whilst also exploring how a wedding reception can be both beautiful and sustainable.”
