Jess in J. Andreatta for her Elegant Weekend Wedding at Dewsall Court

Dewsall Court wedding

Jess and Spencer tied the knot on 21st May 2022, at beautiful Herefordshire country house wedding venue, Dewsall Court.

The effortlessly stylish bride chose a deliciously understated wedding dress by designer J Andreatta, which she discovered at the beautiful bridal sanctuary that is Amare.

The couple appointed Hannah of Studio Porter, to style their day, who did the most spectacular job elevating this already magical space into a scene bursting with natural and seasonal blooms by Liberty Lane and pretty reception decor to delight guests.

Dewsall Court

We got married at Dewsall Court in Hereford. The venue is located between my family and where we live in London, and Spencer’s family in Wales.

We loved that the venue overlooks the Black Mountains in Wales. We also liked the idea of our family and closest friends being able to stay with us for the entire weekend, which Dewsall was able to accommodate perfectly.

The Dress

J Andreatta from Amare Bride

I got my dress from Amare. Lyndsey from Amare has created the most beautiful bridal shop that is a true joy to visit. She was so lovely and helpful and had an amazing selection of dresses.

On my third visit, I had planned to make a final decision between two dresses I had narrowed down to, but found out that Amare was having its first J Andreatta trunk show. I’d actually seen my dress a few months before when doing some initial looking, but could not seem to find any UK stockists so gave up on the idea. I was thrilled when she said she had the dress for me to try, and I knew as soon as I saw it that it is was the one.

My bridesmaids chose a selection of pinks and soft neutrals to complement my dress. My sister and maid-of-honor wore a gorgeous satin halter neck dress by The Own Studio.

My dress was handmade from multiple layers of delicate semi-sheer silk organza. It had a slight blush tone, and the top layer had a lace-like printed pattern. I loved that it was an unusual and modern take on lace, and it was so light and delicate to wear.

I also wore a very delicate J Andreatta veil, white strappy heals from By Far and my perfume was Iris Poudre by Frederic Malle. Makeup was by Nicola Harrison and hair was by Beth from Hair Comes the Bride.

My dad walked me down the aisle to Songbird which was played by Elly O’Keefe. We went to see her perform before the wedding and she helped us choose our ceremony music. She is so talented and we were so excited to have her play at our wedding.

The Ceremony

Dewsall Church

We had a blessing at Dewsall Church which was conducted by Reverend Mark Johnson.

Our sisters both did readings for our ceremony. Jess’s sister read ‘Love is a Temporary Madness’ by Louis de Bernières and Spencer’s sister read ‘Invisible Kisses’ by Lemn Sissay. We wanted our sisters to play important roles in the ceremony.

My engagement ring was designed by Michelle Oh. Our wedding bands were made using gold given to me by my late grandmother.

Liberty Lane Flowers

Jen from Liberty Lane did our flowers. We had seen her previous work at Dewsall Court and were excited to see what she could create for us. She is incredibly talented at coming up with completely unique floral schemes.

Jen created a stunning floral arch to decorate the church entrance. For the Wainhouse barn, she created a delicate floral canopy of sweat peas and cows’ parsley suspended on rope, and the tables were adorned with florals in Jen’s ceramic vessels.

How They Met

We met in our first year of university and had been together for nine years before Spencer popped the question. We got engaged whilst on a beach walk near Spencer’s family home in Pembrokeshire.

Reception, Detail & Decor

Styled by Studio Porter

Hannah of Studio Porter styled our wedding – she was such a joy to work with. She reassured us when things got a little overwhelming in the lead-up, she understood what we wanted and did an amazing job of making everything look beautiful and overseeing the final finishing touches on the day.

Kate of Marble Cake Company created the most stunning 3-tiered cake decorated with intricate piped beads and a cluster of petals on the side.

Photography by Agnes Black

We chose Agnes Black – we loved her relaxed, modern style. She was great on the day – very efficient (we didn’t feel like we missed out on any parts of our wedding day), captured really candid shots and blended into the background (in a good way!).

Evening and Dancing

We had a cocktail hour on the lawn whilst the sun was setting, overlooking the black mountains. We served cocktails while Brigade Band roamed through the party taking requests.

Entertainment was provided by Elly O’Keefe, Brigade Roaming Band and Detroit Soul Band.

Our first dance was to ‘Islands in the Stream’ by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. We have always loved the song, partly stemming from our love of watching Gavin and Stacy together!

Brigade Roaming Band performed this for us and we had our first dance on the lawn during sun set, with all of our family and friends singing and dancing along – it was probably our favorite moment of the entire day!

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Make the most of every moment – the day goes so quickly! Don’t stress too much about the cost – it’s all worth it in the end.
