This cute editorial was a collaboration by photographer Joanna Bongard, Ultramarine Flowers and Posy Patou. Photographed at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns in Margate.
The creative team wanted to breath in some youthful vibrance to an old and much loved space, with bright hues and contemporary design, from British bridal fashion brand, Bon Bride. And this isn’t valentines related at all, but it’s full of sweet young love vibes that made me want to share with you today anyway.
Enjoy, lovers ❤️
The Oval Bandstand, Margate
We were excited to transform and capture our local seafront bandstand, ‘The Oval’, a local gem recently licensed for weddings.
A once neglected location, this strip of British coastline is in the throws of regeneration.
Inspired by the ‘Le Ballon Rouge’ film, and Trichrome photography, we set out to bring the promise of romance to our concrete playground, bringing a sense of spontaneity and high fashion.
Bordering the angles of the space with white lines, bows and billowing bunting- we wanted to guide the eye to the centre of the bandstand for a humanist hand fasting ceremony.
Creating an aisle using deckchairs, we brought in a little of the beach that lies beneath the cliff. Surrounded by steps, the amphitheatre setting naturally lends itself to a dramatic table arrangement, and we couldn’t resist creating hexagonal seating with 128 place settings.
Detail & Decor
The white chocolate wedding cake by Novae Bakery is designed to contrast the beautiful stripe tablecloths and promise an explosion of flavour with its dalmation-esque pattern.
In place of table numbers, Paper Engineer Jess Deacon was commissioned to create 8 unique paper sculptures, with mirrored elements to playfully refract light.
Gemma of Ultramarine Flowers used living table arrangements to bring a sense of raw nature and life to the symmetrical environment, using juicy colours and asymmetry in a boldly modern way.
Styling statements bloom in vases of coloured water, and handmade paper mache stripe vases, clusters of colour are designed to guide the eye to different nooks of the open event space.
Bridal Fashion by Bon Bride
Lulu and Leo, local musicians, and real couple, were styled in sumptuous textures to soften the hard light at the location. Lulu wore a luxurious backless dress by Bon Bride, and a veil with the lyrics from ‘Baby I’m yours’ by the Arctic Monkey’s.
Leo wearing a pink corduroy suit by Beggars Run picking up the peony pinks of the tablescape.
This setting was created for a couple who will go all-in for a celebration of love which reflects their true passions, and the afterparty look was an ode to the rebellious spirit of young love.
