A Black Tie Wedding at Thirsk Lodge Barns for Serena in Madi Lane Bridal

Thirsk Lodge Barn wedding 61

Serena and Will’s 29th October 2022 wedding was held at the beautiful North Yorkshire wedding venue, Thirsk Lodge Barns, on 29th October 2022.

Thirsk Lodge Barns is an exquisite ceremonial and celebratory converted barn space, surrounded by the most beautiful countryside. It made for the most beautiful and perfect location for the couple’s classy and modern black tie wedding.

Serena and Will wanted their wedding design to feel super clean and minimal and avoid any kind of traditional vibe. They worked with shades of white and hints of gold. They also made the wisest choice in appointing photographer Georgina Harrison to capture their wedding photography.

The Dress

I wore a Madi Lane Bridal wedding dress, from Harrogate Wedding Lounge bridal boutique. They were so helpful and supportive and let me have an extra fitting when I needed it. They understood everything I was telling them and are pros at what they do. I definitely recommend.

I didn’t have a dress style in mind so I tried lots of styles. I knew I didn’t want it to look too traditional and I wanted it to look modern and different. I loved the neckline, sleeves and corset detail of the dress the most.

Shoes, Veil & Accessories

I wore a veil from Harrogate Wedding Lounge. It was an applique one which matched the dress. I didn’t think I’d get one but I loved it when I had it on. My shoes were Yves Saint Laurent and my perfume was Valentino Voce Viva.

I had Becca Hunton style my hair and makeup artist Julia Jeckell did my makeup. I would 100% recommend both.

We all loved our hair and make up and they were lovely to have with us on the wedding morning, they were so good at managing such a big bridal party too.

Bridesmaids in white

I had nine bridesmaids in all! They wore white dresses in three different styles, from ASOS.

I wore the ‘Luca earrings’, from Blue Meadow. I also wore gold rings and bracelets from & Other Stories and Daisy London. My necklace was by Dior.

Ceremony

My dad walked me down the aisle to an acoustic version of ‘Latch’, by Disclosure.

We had two readings during our ceremony. One was by Will’s sister, Ceilia– she wrote a poem for us, it was really lovely and funny. The other was by Will’s friend, Tom. We had given Tom a reading but I replaced it with a surprise for Will. I had a poem written about him, which was funny, had lots of stories from our relationship in and why I was marrying him

My ring was a half baguette cut diamond band from Austen & Blake. I wanted something to match my emerald cut engagement ring and sometimes I love to wear it on it’s own. Will’s ring is a gold band.

Our floral designer was Wedding & Events Floral Design. We wanted flowers that didn’t look too traditional and looked modern with a lot of white. We had a floor arch and hoop which was made of gypsophila and white roses which we loved. The bouquets were all white flowers with some pampas grass to match the white theme.

Wedding Photography by Georgina Harrison

We loved Georgina Harrison Photography‘s style, it was a modern, natural, editorial style. We knew straight away Georgina was the only photographer we wanted. She was amazing on the day, she was such a big part of it, she made us laugh a lot and feel so at ease when we were getting our pictures done.

I had ideas of what I wanted from our pictures and she totally understood what I wanted and made them look better than I could have imagined. We’d 100% recommend Georgina and are blown away by our photographs.

We also hired videographer, Mike Brierley Films and would 100% recommend him. Mike was super laid back and we didn’t notice him film all day. He really captured how much fun we had.

How They Met

We met in 2013 through a friend. My best friend from school lived with Will at Uni, she invited us to a festival and we got on straight away. We spent the whole weekend together and had such a laugh together all weekend. Will went abroad for a few years for jobs and I went back to London but we stayed friends for years (but we always liked each other more than that).

In 2017, Will moved to London and we finally started dating. Since then, we did long distance for a few years when Will got a job in Yorkshire, then I moved to Leeds and we lived together and we got engaged in 2021. Will proposed on Lake Windermere on a boat, it was a total surprise, we had champagne and got pretty drunk. We were engaged for 16 months before we got married.

Reception, Detail & Decor

Our stationery was an Etsy design, we got it printed ourselves on embossed grainy card. The design was white and black minimal.

For the reception, we provided shots at everyone’s table place as a favour. These were a mix of our favourites; tequila rose and Jager – we also had orange juice for non alcohol drinkers.

Will’s mum made our cake. Will loves Christmas cake, so she made some for our wedding cake. Catering was provided by Baba Ganoush.

Evening

I’m Indian, so we had a few Indian songs mixed in during the party and my mum had brought some things to Indian dance with. Our first dance was to ‘My Girl’, by Otis Redding.

We hired the Something For The Weekend band.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Enjoy every bit of your wedding, the planning AND the day. We loved doing the whole thing together and we made sure we didn’t get stressed. It’s a day where you get to have fun together and with your favourite people, make it fun the whole way through!

We did sparklers but we probably wouldn’t do it again. Our wedding was really big and it didn’t really work, people had had quite a lot to drink by that point too
