Dentist Charlotte and Investment Manager Paul tied the knot on 24th June 2023 with a gloriously stylish and charming wedding at The Cow Shed in Crail, Scotland.

Styled to perfection by the wonderful team at GLOAM, who also provided all the floral styling and stationery, and hwo we take great pleasure in recommending to all our readers, the couple wanted to embrace the rustic, elegant charm of their venue, with its beautiful farm backdrop. They wanted as many guests to stay on site as possible to join them in their celebration and joy.Charlotte wore a gown by Savannah Miller and these gorgeous images are by Wonderful and Strange. Enjoy!

The Dress

Savannah Miller

I wore the Odette Dress by Savannah Miller – it was from the Anne Priscilla Bridal boutique in Glasgow. The team were very helpful and great at communications throughout the process. They have a good variety of different designers. Yes, I would recommend Scottish based brides to consider this bridal boutique.

I knew I loved Savannah Miller dresses but I wasn’t scouting her dresses at this point in my dress search.

When we arrived at Anne Priscilla in Glasgow, I saw the Odette dress in the window without knowing the designer, I knew I wanted to try it on. Putting the dress on, I immediately felt ‘me’.

I wanted a timeless understated dress. The Odette dress embodies everything I could have dreamed of: comfort, simple elegance with the high cowl neckline and billowing sleeves with deep button cuffs, modest with a touch of sexiness with its plunging open back.

I was unsure of wearing a veil but the shoulder streamers were the perfect ‘modern veil’ feel for me. No dress compared after trying her on.

Bridesmaids & Accessories

GLOAM made me some gorgeous white lisianthus flower hairpins. My perfume was The Matcha 26 by Le Labo.

My bridesmaids wore the Taylor dress by Ghost, in the colours sage. The bridesmaids wore their own shoes and jewellery. We agreed a nude heeled shoe. I wore my mothers three stone trilogy diamond earrings and a Cartier trinity ring. My shoes were from Freya Rose London.

GLOAM made the most gorgeous flower crowns for the bridesmaids which matched the colour of their peony bouquets. They looked like summer fairies.”

The Ceremony

Floristry was by the team at Gloam. We wanted to create impact with our florals so we chose large bulbed flowers like peonies, allium, foxgloves and hydrangeas.

It was also important for us to be sustainable so the florals were sourced as locally as possible.

My mum walked me down the aisle to the sound of the string trio playing ‘Once Upon A Dream’, from Sleeping Beauty.

Our Humanist Celebrant was Craig Campbell. Craig asked us to write our vows in privacy so we didn’t know what each other would say until the moment.

Charlotte’s vows to Paul:

Loving you has always been easy. Never something I questioned or had to try hard at. I can’t promise that the road ahead will always be this easy, but one thing I do know is that you feel like home to me. Home is where the heart is, and my heart will always be with you.

Paul’s vows to Charlotte:

Charlotte, today it is with extreme pride and joy that I become your husband and you, my wife. You have made me incredibly happy since we first met and I’m eternally grateful you came into my life. Your beautiful smile lights up a room and it lights up my heart, and I promise to never stop trying to put a smile on your face. I couldn’t be more excited to build a wonderful life together.

This was my favourite childhood film. My mum has cherished memories of me watching this Disney film on repeat as a young girl. She didn’t know we were walking down the aisle to this song until the moment happened.

It was such a beautiful intimate moment we could share before she walked me down the aisle to’ give me away’ – or as she liked to put it ‘to share me’!

We had two readings. The first was read by one of Charlotte’s best friends, Henry. It was a more sentimental reading, and was Love Sonnet 17, by Pablo Neruda; ‘I Love You Without Knowing You‘.

The next reading was read by one of Paul’s ushers, Stu. A more lighthearted reading. An extract from the movie Love Actually.

Photography

Our photographers were Martyna and David from Wonderful and Strange. Their portfolio was exactly the style of photos we wanted for our wedding day. Raw, natural moments. They capture the beauty of their couples wedding days perfectly.

They are the most gorgeous, fun-loving, energetic couple and they couldn’t have made us feel more relaxed on our wedding day. They felt like friends on the day rather than wedding photographers. We and our guests had so much fun with them which shows in our photographs. So many guests complimented them after the day which says it all. Couldn’t recommend them more.

How They Met

Paul and I both grew up in Edinburgh. Paul was working up here and I was studying down in Leeds but I was up for my summer holidays in 2017 when we first met. We were a Bumble online dating match. We planned to go on our first date on a Wednesday but fortuitously bumped into each other the Saturday before. We had a long distance relationship until I graduated from Leeds dental school back in in 2020 when I moved in with Paul in his flat up in Edinburgh.

Paul proposed in April 2021 as the sun was setting over our gorgeous homestay in a reinterpreted barn in Billingshurst, West Sussex. We were engaged for just over two years. We had a long engagement as both of us have close family overseas and wanted to make sure travel wasn’t an issue with all the covid regulations.

Paul wore a kilt with his day jacket. He had a bespoke waistcoat made in his family tartan from Kinloch Anderson.

“Our wedding inspiration was to create a blend of timeless elegance and rustic charm to enhance The Cow Shed’s natural allure.”

Reception

I envisioned a romantic outdoor ceremony surrounded by natures breathtaking beauty, with lush wild greenery and blooming flouncy summer florals.

The colour palette consisted of sage green, blush pinks and purples, creating a soft and dreamy atmosphere.

I wanted to create a space that embodied a sense of intimacy, romance, and natural beauty, capturing the essence of Paul and mines love story.

Catering was by The Edinburgh catering company.

Favourite Moments

The favourite part of my wedding day was undoubtedly the love that enveloped us, radiating from the presence of our dearest friends and family. Their support and genuine happiness filled the air, making us feel truly cherished.

It is a day that marks the beginning of a new chapter, but it also highlights the power of love, friendship, and the bonds of family. Being surrounded by our loved ones on our special day brought immense joy and created lasting memories that we will forever treasure.

There is absolutely nothing we would have done differently –  it was perfect for us ☺

Evening & Dancing

We hired the Capella String Trio for the ceremony and reception. We hired Nashville Heat for the evening band. Our first dance track was to ‘There Will Be Time’, by Mumford & Sons and Baaba Maal. Our friend Nikki recommend this song to us and as soon as we listened to it we knew it was for us. We wanted a song to allow Paul and I to share our intimate ‘first dance’ moment together but then energetic enough to get everyone dancing along with us to set the party atmosphere for the rest of the evening.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Love My Dress has a very helpful directory that can filter location. So many times I’d research suppliers on Google and find out after correspondence that they are England based.

Enjoy it! It can be a stressful process, with all the different aspects of the day to consider, but it goes so quickly and it’ll be a memory before you know it, so relish the process up as much as you can.

Make sure you carve some quality time for you and your fiancé before the big day. It was quite overwhelming the few weeks leading up to the day with deadlines and admin and we didn’t feel as connected as we wanted, so I booked a trip away for us for a few nights to reset and unwind and enjoy our last few nights together as fiancés. We were so glad we did this as we came back feeling refreshed, relaxed and more ready than ever to get married!

We didn’t really set a budget per say as we didn’t know how much weddings costed! We set a list of things that were absolute priority to us and made sure we were happy with the quality of those things to give us a rough gauge of expenses and then went from there. The total budget was probably around the mark that we expected.

A Note From The The Stylists

GLOAM

Working with Charlotte and Paul was an absolute joy from start to finish. They had a clear idea in their minds of the lush romantic scene they wanted to create for their guests and they trusted us to take that vision and run with it.  Every corner of their beautiful venue was filled with delight and the weather was on our side, even in Scotland, for a glorious outdoor ceremony.

It truly was the most wonderful wedding and the images from Wonderful and Strange fully convey just how much LOVE, and just how many flowers, filled the day.
