Ray McShane Films – Award Winning Wedding Films

Hello lovely readers and how are you today? I hope all in your world is beautiful and there’s plenty to make you smile. Even if you’ve got a continual grin on your face at the moment, I’ve got a sneaking feeling that this feature is just going to make you even happier.

I have to admit that when I first started out in the wedding industry twelve years ago, wedding videos were still a little cringe-worthy. Since then, they’ve come on in leaps and bounds and wedding films now are evocative and joyful and each is a little piece of creative genius. Today, I’m beyond happy to share with you the work of Ray McShane Films so sit back, relax and enjoy…

Ray McShane Films is an award-winning wedding film studio, based in beautiful Devon and owned and managed by husband and wife Sarah and Ray. The couple travel across the UK and around the world bringing their own delightful brand of wedding film making to celebrations of every style.

“Ray was already shooting live music sessions when we decided to go to the US and train with two world renowned wedding film makers,” explains Sarah. “We wanted to really learn our craft before starting the business and a year later, we launched Ray McShane Films.”

Now I’ve seen a lot of wedding films in my time and what really appeals to me about the wedding films from Ray McShane is that each film is truly unique. It’s organic and natural and it’s not all about the filmmaker and their own personal style and preferences. Instead, each film is based solely around the couple and the wedding that unfolds in front of your eyes.

“Each film is as individual as each couple we shoot,” says Ray. “We feel our wedding films are emotional short stories with a very unique look, from the composition to the colour grading. Many studios will brand themselves around a particular style of wedding but we watch a wedding unfold and then we study the footage and build the edit around the things we feel were the most important.”

I absolutely love this approach. I adore the prospect of receiving a film that’s absolutely my day, not film that could belong to anyone. To me, this is what provides the difference between a wedding supplier and a wedding professional – a true professional is confident enough in their skills to adapt in the moment and really understand what’s important.

“Some things just hold more emotional value to the couple,” says Sarah. “If we tune into that then we can create something really special. I think we do have a signature style but it’s so hard to describe in words as it’s a visual style and feeling throughout our wedding films but you can see it and feel the empathy with the couples we’ve shot.

The couples we shoot inspire us,” agrees Ray. “The things we see, the things we capture and the things we can record and share make us smile. Revealing the films when they’re finished is a fantastic feeling.”

And if Ray and Sarah love presenting their wedding films to couples, I know that we’re all head over heels about watching them.
