Well hello lovely readers and how are you on this early April day? I hope that wherever you are, you’re feeling the joys of spring even if the weather outside your window hasn’t quite caught the seasonal vibe just yet! But, no matter because today’s feature is sure to brighten even the darkest day as I’m really happy to introduce you to wedding photographer Joseph Hall and his vibrant, heartfelt images…
Based in Bristol, Joseph Hall has been a photographer since graduating from university with a degree in photography more than a decade ago. He’s most definitely a documentary wedding photographer who pours a lot of love and a whole lot of soul into every wedding he shoots.
“Wedding photography chose me!” says Joseph. “When I started out, wedding photography had some rather traditional and stuffy connotations but I was persuaded to shoot a bunch of weddings and realised that I loved it! I love how many disciplines and genres wedding photography entails in just the one whole day so for me, it was a perfect fit.”
Since that life-changing moment, Joseph has been a full-time, super professional wedding photographer. Bristol is, he says, the perfect location for him as he travels extensively throughout Devon, Cornwall, London, the South coast and the Home Counties for weddings as well as heading to Wales, the Cotswolds and even into Europe for a select number of celebrations every year. It’s the wedding venues as well as the people involved that really inspire Joseph…
“My work is definitely inspired by my surroundings on the day. The light, the locations and the people always play a big role in my photography but I’m also a real sucker for a story and people are just so endlessly interesting. A wedding day is very much a day of heightened emotional experiences and capturing this is a real privilege.”
Joseph Hall certainly captures those never-to-be-repeated wedding moments with a definite style. I love that people are central to his images and that he picks up on those little looks and gestures that can mean so much. I’m also a real fan of his shots that are just full of fun and pure enjoyment.
“Organising a wedding is pretty much a super hero job and I’m keen to capture the day in an authentic and natural way without getting in the way or telling everyone what to do. Also, there are so many decisions to make and plates to keep spinning the run up to the day that when the wedding arrives, the bride and groom quite often want to just cut loose and I just want to capture this!”
I can’t tell you how much that makes me happy. The wedding photos that are always the most wonderful to view and the ones that make the whole team at Love My Dress smile are those where the couples and their guests are just being themselves, whatever that might be. The fact that Joseph Hall has set himself the job of simply photographing emotions deserves, I think, a little round of applause.
