Robyn and Dan’s wedding took place at the exquisite Iscoyd Park in Shropshire – a venue we know and love deeply here at Love My Dress. Full of thoughtful details and understated luxury, their day was the perfect blend of timeless style, soft elegance and heartfelt celebration.
Set in late May, the couple made the most of Iscoyd’s beautiful gardens and characterful interiors, opting for a refined, minimalist aesthetic rooted in pale pastels and natural tones. The bride wore a striking strapless gown by Chosen by KYHA, discovered at Marrime bridal boutique in Newcastle upon Tyne – a dress that brought together both modern silhouette and classic appeal.
From sentimental touches woven throughout the day, to the honest joy captured in every photograph by Heledd Roberts, this is the kind of wedding that lingers in the memory – full of charm, soul and the sort of beauty that never goes out of style.
Venue & Location
Our venue was Iscoyd Park in Whitchurch, Shropshire.We initially came across Iscoyd on Instagram after searching for venues across the North West. As Dan and I come from different areas, we weren’t set on one particular location. Before even seeing the venue in person I described it as “the one!”. Iscoyd Park was the first venue we visited; instantly we loved it and got such a good feel for the place. We did go on to visit another 7 venues, none of which really compared.
The building itself is absolutely stunning and beautifully decorated throughout. Likewise, the grounds and garden are immaculate. We absolutely loved the garden room which is where we chose to have our ceremony; its large arched windows give it a church-type feel. Despite the size of Iscoyd, it still has a cosy homely feel. All of the staff were so warm and friendly from our first visit, they were a real selling point – we didn’t get this from other venues to the same extent.
At an age where we’re attending a lot of weddings, we liked the fact that no one we knew had got married there already.
The Dress
Chosen by KYHA
I wore a Chosen by Kyha dress, from Marrime bridal boutique in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Marrime was the first bridal shop I visited. I found the shop on instagram; it was relatively close to my parents house and I loved the look/style of the shop, the dresses/designers and accessories they stocked.
I had originally seen a dress by Jane Hill, a designer which is stocked at Marrime, so it felt like a good place to start. I went with my mum and we received a really warm welcome and a glass of fizz which is always nice! The stylist, Jess, was so lovely, really encouraging and complimentary.
I did go on to visit five or six more bridal shops and eventually decided on my dress which had actually been stocked at Marrime but I hadn’t picked it out from there on my original visit. I decided to get my dress from Marrime (a 3 hour drive away from where I live) despite being able to get the dress from a bridal shop more local to me. I probably wouldn’t recommend this for brides who plan to use in-house seamstresses (like I did!).
I obviously knew I’d need to travel at least three times for alteration appointments/collection, but I underestimated the time spent for travel etc for this in the month or two before the wedding when there’s so many little things to sort/finalise; it was a bit overwhelming feeling constantly on the go. That being said, I would do it all over again knowing how happy I was with the outcome!
I would definitely recommend Marrime to other brides. It can feel quite overwhelming trying on lots of different styles. Choosing your dress feels like such a big decision with a lot of pressure to look and feel amazing. I’d recommend trying on dresses as soon as possible to give yourself plenty of time to think about things fully and choose the right one for you.
I always imagined I’d wear quite a plain wedding dress. I wanted something really classy and elegant. My dress was fitted but I opted for an overskirt as well which I loved as it enabled me to have two looks. I absolutely loved my veil; it added detail to the simple dress and was unlike a lot of veils in that the embroidery detail was at the top.
At every bridal shop I visited I said I definitely didn’t want strapless and ruled out trying these on at most places… lo and behold, I ended up with a strapless dress! So my advice to other brides when looking for their dress would be don’t rule anything out, because you just might surprise yourself!
I wore the Chosen by KYHA Hepburn veil – also from Marrime. It was a teardrop style with lace appliqued flowers. I absolutely loved my veil and received so many compliments on it during the wedding day. As I’d chosen a plain dress, I wanted to add a detailed veil. I liked that the style of this veil was quite different to most in that the applique was at the top of the veil, as opposed to the bottom.
My shoes were gold heeled sandals from Mango and I wore a pair of stud diamond earrings that my mum gifted me and a gold bracelet from my sister (mentioned earlier on form).
I also had two charms attached to my bouquet which had pictures of my grandparents on. These were from a company on Etsy, I was so pleased with how these came out as the pictures I had were old and not the best quality – would highly recommend!
My sister gifted me a dainty gold bracelet from Monica Vinader with small hearts on which I loved and wore on the day.
I layered two Jo Malone perfumes – Myrrh & Tonka and English Pear & Freesia. Myrrh & Tonka is a perfume Dan and I love; I wear this for special occasions. I wanted to wear something a bit different for our wedding day so after going for a Jo Malone wedding experience with my mum, I chose to layer my Myrrah & Tonka with another one, to make it feel a bit more special for the day.
I would recommend this experience to anyone – it’s free! And they don’t make you feel any pressure to buy something. We spent hours going through the different fragrances and creams with glasses of fizz, it was a really special day with my mum. I got my bridal party and mother in-law a bottle of the English Pear & Freesia to tie in with me and remember the day with a scent! I also got my mum a Myrrh & Tonka body cream.
As well as this, I bought a cologne for Dan. They engraved the bottle lids with ‘Mr’, ‘Mrs’, ‘H’. This was a special touch.
Our bridesmaids wore high neck satin maxi dresses in a blush colour. They both have amazing figures and looked absolutely incredible. The dresses were from Coast and tied in really nicely with the colour scheme for the florals and our photographers style.
Dan wore a suit by Benetti in beige. He wore a pair of tanned leather derby brogues from Oliver Sweeney. Tie and shirt were Next. He also wore a matching tanned leather belt from Moss Bros and a tie pin from Ted Baker. I also gifted Dan a pair of cufflinks to wear on the day.
The Ceremony
I loved every part of our day, but especially our ceremony. The anticipation of seeing each other for the first time was unforgettable. Despite a room full of people, it felt like it was just the two of us. There were some funny moments too – Dan not realising it was him that needed to say he promised to love me (not the registrar!) and his nan’s phone going off mid-ceremony…”hello moto” will now forever remind us of our wedding day.
For me, the ceremony was probably the part of the day I felt most present; it all becomes a bit of a blur afterwards, as there’s so much going on. The pictures of our ceremony are also some of my favourite, they really capture the love and laughter in the room.
My dad walked me down the aisle to the sound of the Nero Stings Quartet playing Duomo’s ‘Wildest Dreams’. This was super special to me and quite emotional as he had recently ungone treatment, receiving the all clear just weeks before the wedding. I had always pictured this moment and the photographs of me and my dad are some of my favourites.
I was worried about being too emotional to get my words out in front of everyone so we chose extended statutory vows for the ceremony and opted for a personal letter to each other which we opened separately beforehand.
I cried just writing my letter so I’m really pleased we did it this way! This took the pressure off the ceremony to an extent so we were able to enjoy it and it was comforting to read whilst doing our final preparations.
All rings were purchased from Christopher James in Liverpool.
Photography
Getting the right photographer was a priority for us. We knew we wanted a soft, romantic style photographer and not heavily edited. Heledd’s style is just that!
Heledd Roberts was the first crucial supplier we booked for our wedding. Communication was brilliant. From our initial call and various emails, responses were always quick and really helpful. After viewing some galleries (some from our venue, as well as others) we knew we wanted Heledd to capture our day – her style was exactly what we were looking for. Pictures were absolutely flawless!
Heledd kindly met us at our venue a month before our wedding. She walked us round and talked through how the day would run whilst asking us questions and taking the time to get to know us and what we wanted. I can’t emphasise enough how beneficial this was! It really helped reduce some pre-wedding anxieties and instilled us with even more confidence that we’d made the right choice with our photographer. She was so gorgeous and friendly, putting us both at ease – not that there was ever any doubt!
Throughout the entire process, Heledd was so accommodating and we always felt that nothing was too much trouble. On the wedding day itself, she was amazing and again so so helpful, going above and beyond for us! She captured everything so beautifully and was a pleasure to have around, although for much of the time you didn’t even realise she was there! Her experience and professionalism was clear throughout the day.
We couldn’t be happier with our pictures and are so glad we invested in an amazing photographer. We’ve had so many compliments on our photos already; so much so that friends have said they would want her to capture their future weddings and/or they’re using our pictures for inspo. We really couldn’t recommend Heledd enough!
We briefly met whilst on holiday with our friends, then bumped into each other on a night out at university months later. We’d been together for eight years before Dan finally popped the question on 4th July 2022, whilst we were on holiday in Sorrento. We booked the wedding in November 2022, roughly eighteen months prior to our wedding day.
The Reception
The buildings within Iscoyd are decorated so beautifully, none of the rooms required much additional decor. We had a welcome sign with flowers below at the entrance when guests arrived. These flowers were later moved and displayed under our seating sign. We had candles and some bud flowers scattered throughout
Our florists were Ivy Pip & Rose. We wanted elegant but relaxed flowers, nothing too polished. For bouquets and buttonholes, we didn’t want anything too big. For our ceremony, we had two window sill displays which we later reused on our top table.
We chose a local supplier for our cake – Lakeside Bakes. We wanted a relatively small and simple main cake, surrounded by cupcakes. We also had a brownie stack. I love cake and Dan loves brownies so it was nice to have a mix of both. Dan would have happily had no cake at all, but was under strict instructions from his nan (and me!) that we had to have a cake!
We designed and made all our own stationery using canva, this includes invites, table plans, menus, place cards etc. For the main page of our invites, Dan drew the front of Iscoyd Park which turned out so well!
Our favours were miniature bottles of limoncello – a nod to our engagement in Sorrento and an excuse to provide guests with another drink! We attached tiny lemons and created our own little tag for them.
Words of Wedded Wisdom
Despite a thorough spreadsheet (or so we thought) with most wedding costs, we still managed to exceed this by between £1-2000. There’s lots of little costs that you don’t consider, it was probably in the final month or so when panic sets in that we just bought lots of little things ‘just in case’.
Not really something within our control, but we would have liked to have the string quartet play outside during the drinks reception. We had every season of weather; it hailed early on with black clouds and thunder and lightning, then cleared up whilst we were in the ceremony, and the day was lovely from that point onwards. Due to the unpredictable weather, Nero Strings had to set up inside.
It’s a bit of a cliche, but don’t sweat the small stuff! You can spend so much time worrying about superficial details like table plans and signage, and yes of course you want things to look right, but it’s not something you’ll care too much about on the day. Your guests will remember if the food was good and they had a good time, not what your table set ups looked like.
That being said, the small sentimental and personalised details are worthwhile and appreciated by family and friends.
Try and enjoy the process! It can be quite overwhelming, especially at the beginning, knowing how much needs to be done. Break things down into weekly or monthly tasks listed somewhere you can both access. We had a ‘to do list’ tab on our wedding spreadsheet, we had rough deadlines for when things needed to be done. Share the load! Make sure any supplier emails are going to both of you so you can equally keep on top of things.
Remember, it’s likely there will be something that doesn’t go exactly as planned, but don’t waste time stressing about things that could go wrong. Trust in your suppliers and those around you to take care of this for you if needed.
Once you’ve set a budget, prioritise what’s important to you both, and shape your budget around that.
Take on board opinions of family and friends, but remember that ultimately, it’s your day and your perfect day may look very different to theirs. It’s about you and your husband/bride to be and creating a day neither of you will want to forget!
