Louisa and Josh married in late May in the Somerset village of North Wootton, before heading home to celebrate in the garden on Josh’s family farm. I’m so happy to be sharing their wedding through these photographs by Joshua Gooding with beautiful spring flowers by our Love My Dress directory member Megan Lily Floral Design and a reception beneath the wooden beams of a Cruck Tent.

Louisa and Josh took inspiration from the English countryside in spring, their favourite season, with pale blue Maids to Measure dresses for the bridesmaids and plenty of seasonal flowers. They wanted to work with local suppliers wherever possible, so there are some lovely Somerset recommendations to discover here too.

Louisa found her dress at Sassi Holford’s Taunton boutique and wore the Hannah, a beautiful halterneck design with a bow at the neck and long lengths of fabric draping down her back. I love how clearly you can see those details in Josh’s photographs, especially with Louisa choosing to go without a veil.

We’re so delighted to share more of our recommended supplier, Megan Lily Floral Design’s beautiful work. Meg arranged local, seasonal flowers in soft pastel colours, including a head-turner of a floral chandelier suspended above the circular bar beneath the tent’s wooden beams. Her loose, whimsical style is such a lovely choice for a garden wedding.

We were mostly inspired by the English countryside and the colours of spring. Spring is our favourite time of year, the flowers are beautiful, the days are long. We really wanted to keep everything as local as possible, using local suppliers to celebrate Somerset.

The Venue & Location

We got married in the village church, St Peter’s, North Wootton, Somerset, then had our reception back at our home, on Josh’s family farm, in a wonderful wooden Cruck Tent.

We have spent the past few years building our home on the farm, so using the garden as the location of the reception reflected us as a couple. Plus we have views of Glastonbury Tor which is where we got engaged, we used a little hand sketch of the Tor for our wedding stationery so this also became a feature of the day.

The village church is really quaint and beautiful but also has a strong family connection for Josh with members of his family christened, married and buried there.

The ‘banns book’ dates back to 1824 which is an incredible piece of history and nice to share with all those who came before us, including his grandparents in 1959.

The Dress

Sassi Holford

My dress was from Sassi Holford, the ‘Hannah’ dress from their ‘Love conquers all’ 2022 range

I visited the Sassi Holford store in Taunton with my Mum, in July 2023, they were holding a sample sale so I just thought it would be a nice trip out for us both and didn’t expect to buy anything.

It was the first time I had tried on any wedding dresses and the girls were so helpful. I couldn’t have had a better experience and would highly recommend them.

I found the dress on Instagram before we were even engaged, my best friend was getting married so my algorithm was already changing! I sent it to her with the caption ‘THIS DRESS’ and lots of love hearts, the bow at the neck with the draping was just so stunning.

So when we went to Sassi Holford sample sale I was so happy to find the dress there and knew I had to try it on. It was the first dress I tried on and immediately felt like it was the dress, it fit me almost perfectly. All the dresses I tried after that didn’t compare.

I didn’t wear a veil because the draping of the dress lent towards the feel of a veil already.

I purchased my shoes from a preloved website called ‘The Green Muse’. They were brand new and had never been worn but were a bargain price and fit like a glove. I didn’t think that I wanted any sort of heel height because I am already nearly 6ft tall and I didn’t think I wanted a stiletto heel with a marquee, but who could say no to a pair of Jimmy Choo’s when they fit like a glove!

I wore Marc Jacobs’ Daisy, the scent I’ve always worn.

I had a couple of silk bows that were part of my late maternal grandmother’s wedding dress. She cut them off her dress and my Mum then had them sewn onto her dress when she got married. We couldn’t find a way to add them to my dress so instead had them added to my bouquet. It was so special having a piece of her with me on our wedding day. Something old and something borrowed.

I borrowed a gorgeous tennis bracelet from my new mother-in-law.

My bridesmaids wore dresses from Maids to Measure, all in pale blue. We visited the Maids to Measure store in Kensington in July 2024 so they could try on lots of dresses. I was open to all colours and styles and just wanted to the girls to feel comfortable and happy with what they were wearing. In the end they all looked amazing in pale blue so we just played around with different styles for each of them settling for Allegra, Cleo and Eadie.

Josh worn a tailcoat suit from Clifton Suits in Bristol. Their team of tailors are so attentive and generous with their time and knowledge. We went together on the first occasion so that Josh could settle on what he wanted to wear, then he went back with his bestmen and our dads for a full fitting.

Harriet Gallon was my hair and makeup artist, a true artist who brought such good energy to the morning. I was put in contact with Harriet after one of my friends used her for hair and make up for their wedding.

Harriet ithe s amazing, a true artist and knew exactly what I wanted. On the day she was so helpful beyond hair and make up, and brought such a good energy to the morning. It was a lot of fun getting ready with her and she enhanced everyone with elegant make up too.

I arrived at the church with my Mum, Dad and bridesmaids and my Dad walked me down the aisle to Hanedel’s ‘Air From Water Music’.

Our ceremony was led by Reverend Daile Wilshere. We had two readings, one bible extract and one passage from a book that my Maid of Honour edited to make it more reflective of us.

Both of our rings were preloved. We both wanted simple yellow gold bands that we could wear every day to work. My ring was gifted to me by Josh’s mum, my new mother-in-law, she had purchased it years ago at an antiques fair and wore it day to day. It’s 22ct yellow gold with hallmarks stating that it was made in Birmingham in 1864-1865!

We had the incredible Josh Gooding capture our day, it was the only non-negotiable for me!

Josh and I went to college together and knew each other through a friend, he took some portrait photos of me back in February 2012 as part of a portfolio he was putting together.

I’ve watched his career blossom over the past 10 years and absolutely adore his style of photography, it had to be him. I was delighted when he said he was available!

On the day he was so calm, so gentle with his instruction and made Josh and I feel so comfortable in front of the camera when we would normally feel quite awkward. He blended into our guests and captured the most beautiful, candid shots of everyone. I would recommend him in fla heartbeat! We will truly treasure these photos forever.

How They Met

We met at work in July 2018 but were firmly just colleagues until December 2018/January 2019 when we started to spend more time together outside of work.

We got engaged in April 2023, we had a long weekend off together which is rare and Josh had planned a whole series of activities that I didn’t have any idea about. We started on the Friday with a wholesome walk with our dog Nala from our home to Glastonbury Tor which is nearly a 10 mile round trip. I didn’t really notice at the time but in hindsight, it was a very sunny day for April and Josh kept his coat on for the entire walk which is very out of character.

When we reached the top of the Tor we sat down to take in the views and play the game we always play of trying to spot our house. We sat in a few different spots at the top and just as I thought we were leaving, Josh sat down again.

In the short moment it took me to sit and turn away to encourage the dog to sit down too, out came a ring box from his coat pocket and a huge smile on Josh’s face.

I remember being so shocked, I really had no idea that he was going to propose.

We decided that we wanted to have a long engagement in order to plan the wedding at our own pace and not feel rushed. We were engaged for just over two years before we were married.

The Reception

We had an enormous disco ball hanging over the dancefloor, hired from Cruck Tent and inspired by the owners of Cruck Tent, Harry & Sally, who had the same disco ball at their wedding. We now have a much smaller one hanging up in our kitchen.

Megan Lily Floral Design was our florist. I found Meg on Instagram and loved her whimsical style, local, seasonal flowers and that she wasn’t strict on packages which gave us so much freedom. I wasn’t fussy about any certain flowers but wanted a mix of soft spring pastel colours and she knew exactly how to fulfil the brief.

The height of the Cruck tent lent itself to hanging floral arrangements, we opted for a large floral chandelier placed in the centre, hanging over the circular bar. It was such a beautiful, stand out piece of decoration and such a visual focus.

The French Kitchen, based in West Horrington, catered the day, delivering food that was absolutely incredible. 10/10 amazing food and such an organised team, everything ran so smoothly and tasted incredible!

We had a cake of cheese that we sourced from a family friend who works in catering supply.

Nearly all the cheeses were local to Somerset including Godminster cheddar from Bruton, White Lake Driftwood Goats cheese from Shepton Mallet, Cricket St Thomas Brie and Wookey Cave Aged Cheddar to name a few. My bridesmaids and If decorated the cake with figs and grapes and rosemary sprigs cut from the garden.

We also had fruit cake to go alongside, that was made by a friend of my parents.

I designed the invitations, table plans, menus, orders of service myself using Canva. We had everything printed at our local printing press in Wells, St Andrew’s Press.

Our first dance was ‘Sally Cinnamon’ by the Stone Roses. We wanted an upbeat song that was fun and would get people on the dancefloor and something that our excellent band could play and would reflect their music style. It took us some time to finally settle on Sally Cinnamon, we both absolutely love this song and as part of our RSVP we asked people to request a song and Sally Cinnamon was one of those, that is what really confirmed it for us both.

Entertainment came from The Volcanics, booked through Entertainment Nation and Ace Mini Golf Hire provided a course for guests to enjoy during the reception.

We have both been to a lot of weddings over the past few years and for both of us, our favourite part is the mingling time in the reception after the ceremony but before dinner. Consequently, we scheduled longer for this, allowing us to speak to all our guests, for our guests to enjoy the garden, sparkling wine, canapes and mini golf course.

The day couldn’t have been better, couldn’t have run better and exceeded all expectations that we both had.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Really don’t sweat the small stuff, at the end of the day it’s about you and your partner expressing your love for each other. Make the day yours, feel like you, reflect you. Don’t do something just because it’s an Instagram trend, that is unless you really want to.

Invest in your photographer, look through their portfolios and make sure you love their style. The day your photos come back is almost as amazing as the wedding day itself and it’s the part you get to relive over and over again.
