Mallorca in September is pure magic. The golden light, the scent of citrus groves and the rustic charm of traditional finca venues make it one of the most romantic places to get married in Europe. For Sophie and Jorge, the island offered more than just a beautiful backdrop – it brought them closer to Jorge’s Spanish roots and offered their loved ones a joyful destination wedding experience in the beautiful warm sunshine.
Sophie and Jorge’s wedding celebrations took place at the breathtaking Son Burguet, a secluded finca nestled in the Mallorcan countryside. With its honey-hued stone walls, far-reaching views and soulful atmosphere, the venue couldn’t have been more perfect. The couple worked with talented wedding planner and stylist, Kiveli weddings, who brought their vision to life with effortless flair – combining the natural elegance of Spain with a bold, modern palette of oranges, yellows and soft neutrals.
From the thoughtful bilingual ceremony to the warm, late-summer colour palette that echoed the island’s natural beauty, every element felt considered and personal, relaxed and joyful.

We chose Spain, where Jorge’s family is from, and we wanted a holiday destination for our overseas guests. We fell in love with the beautiful finca style venues of Mallorca and Son Burguet had such a gorgeous old charm to it. Our wedding planner was the lovely Cybelle Maalouf from Kiveli weddings.

We wanted the style of the wedding to blend in with Mallorca’s natural landscape and timeless architecture, while also incorporating both of our cultures. The colours and decor – oranges, yellows, creams, and natural beiges – brought that vision to life. Incorporating both English and Spanish was essential to us, so all our signage, the ceremony and speeches were bilingual.

The Dress
Rituals Of Love
I found my dress at Rituals of Love in Vancouver. I tried on several dresses from different designers, but I instantly fell in love with my dress from their in house collection. The team of stylists at Rituals gave me great advice and helped me find the perfect veil to pair with it. It was a very smooth and easy process – I’d definitely recommend them to other brides.

I knew I wanted something understated and elegant but with some sort of off-the-shoulder detail. When I put the dress on, I immediately felt that it was me. What I loved most was the material – it had a subtle pearlescent sheen that made it truly special.

My veil was also from the Rituals of Love ‘Rituals Ceremonial’ collection and my shoes were Be Mine Bridal Neeru slingback heeled shoes.
I didn’t have any bridesmaids as it’s not very common to do so in Spain.

The Ceremony
We didn’t have bridesmaids, so we decided to do the ceremony a bit different; Jorge walked down the isle first with his Mother, Marissa. Then my mother, Petra, and Jorges father, Armando, walked down the isle together. My father, Gary, walked me down the aisle.

Jorge, Marissa, Petra, and Armando, walked down the aisle to ‘Moon River’ by Frank Ocean. Myself and my father walked down the aisle to ‘River flows in you’ by Yuruma. Our exit song was ‘I follow Rivers’ by Lykke Li and The Magician. It was only after picking each of the songs that we realised the ‘River’ theme in each of them!
Our ceremony was lead by celebrant, Claudia Nagyivan.
We both tailored our own vows; “I take you, Jorge, to be my husband and lifelong friend. I promise to love and embrace every part of you and everything that makes up your identity. I will look at your quirks with curiosity instead of judgement, and always seek to understand you. Wherever we are in this world I want you to find home in me. I vow to be your shelter and safe haven.”
“I promise that I will always get angry at you when you don’t put the washing away. So if you can’t handle that for the rest of your life , now’s the time to speak up. But no matter if we fight, I vow to always put in work to resolve it. I promise to support you, inspire you, and love you always. You are the only one I choose today and every day for the rest of my life. Te Amo”

Both my engagement and wedding ring were by Evorden. Evorden create beautiful unique statement pieces. I always wanted a sapphire ring, and they have a beautiful sapphire collection to choose from. Initially, I wasn’t sure if I wanted a wedding ring as well as an engagement ring as I don’t tend to wear a lot of jewellery.
When I tried on the Astraea band it looked so beautiful combined with the sapphire engagement ring and I couldn’t say no! Jorge’s ring was from Spence Diamonds.
It’s so hard to pick a favourite moment as everything was so special, but if I had to, I would say it was the moment directly after the ceremony. We had a small moment alone between ourselves where we could toast to us and finally say “We’re married!”.
There was such a rush of endorphins in that moment. From then on, the nerves were out the way and we could completely relax and enjoy the day.

Photography
Our photographer was Adrian Oliver Photography. I stumbled upon Adrian through instagram and loved his style.
Adrian is based in Mallorca and is fantastic at infusing the Mallorcan essence into his editorial style photographs. Adrian made us feel so comfortable on the day and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Adrian’s certainly a rising star and I’d highly recommend him to others.
Jorge and I met in Vancouver in July 2021 at a bbq between mutual friends. It didn’t take long for us to feel like we’d found “our person” and two years later, in July 2023, he proposed. In front of the Royal Palace in Madrid, Jorge took what I thought was a casual photo of me and then showed me the picture – revealing that he’d been holding a ring box behind my back. As I turned to him in surprise, he opened the ring box and proposed, turning a simple moment into a beautiful surprise! 14 months after that, we had our wedding.

The Reception
Our caterers were Tast Out. One of our favourite thing about the catering was the elaborate spread of appetisers. There were so many different things to choose from, and we also had a dedicated Jamon carving station! Our guests raved about the food.
The furniture/Decor was also a combination from Tast Out and the venue itself. For the décor, we drew inspiration from Mallorca’s vibrant mandarins, setting them against a minimalist, all-white table setting with “Mallorca chairs” that harmonised beautifully with the venue’s warm stone hues.
Our flowers were by Faire Flowers Mallorca. The only major directive we gave was on the colour scheme – oranges, yellows, and creams. We wanted to trust the expertise of our floral stylist to create a beautiful unique design based on our wedding style. And she exceeded our expectations. The flowers and decor complimented the venue and landscape so beautifully.
We gifted ‘favours’ of mini bottles of Pacharan on a sign board with shelves. Pacharan is a Navarran liquor from Jorges hometown. Each bottle had a custom label created with a guest name and table number. These were sourced from Mini Box Bar.

We chose ‘Agua’ by Jarabe de Palo for our first dance. Although the lyrics do not hold great significance to us, we found the melody so romantic and its our favourite song that we share together.

Words of Wedded Wisdom
Wedding styles and trends come and go very quickly, and your tastes can change a lot in a year. The style I wanted at the beginning of the planning stages was very different to what I ended up choosing further down the line.
My advice is to try and stick with timeless styles as much as you can, or alternatively ensure you have flexibility to tweak some elements closer to the day if you change your mind.
Since a lot of people were travelling a long way to be at our wedding, we decided to hold a couple of activities before the big day. We had a welcome dinner with tapas and lots of sangria, as well as a catamaran trip around the island. It was a great way for both families and friends to get to know each for the wedding.
